Steel Boxes appear as metallic dull gray boxes with square indentations on each of their six faces. Unlike their wooden version, they do not break on collision with [[Fireballs]], and they are also the only form of box that can withstand [[Lava]]. However, being heavier than Wooden Boxes, they do not float in liquids, and two of them are required to construct a bridge over water or lava.

Steel Boxes are occasionally referred to as "metal boxes"; however, this is not official terminology.
