Talk:SPARKY!

SPARKY! is one character, not multiple. "They" is plural, "He or she" is singular. Why shouldn't we use "he or she" Tyteen4a03? Fuzboto 10:35, 6 June 2011 (CDT)

The reason we should not use "he or she" is because it makes whoever wrote the article look like he doesn't know anything about what he is writing, so the article looks unprofessional.
Repeated "SPARKY!"'s make the article very confusing to read, and it also make the article messy.
Why don't we just use "he"? It's the most likely gender for SPARKY! and it will make the article look better and be easier to read. Does the gender really matter that much? --Dlcs18 06:43, 4 June 2011 (CDT)

As a side note, "They" or "Their" in the place of "He/She" or "His/Her" is grammatically correct and gender-neutral, plus it reads much better. Also, keep in mind that WonderWiki is supposed to read professionally, so using "They" and "Their" is a pretty solid option. --~Qloof234 06:52, 4 June 2011 (CDT)

Why do you think that "he" is more likely? It just so happens that approximately half of the humans are female and approximately half of the humans are male (and even if it were likely, then it would still be incorrect to act as if it were definite), and we aren't even talking about humans. "They" and "Their" and "Them" and "Themself" don't work because they are plural. I think "he/she" looks more professional than "he or she" actually. Fuzboto 10:35, 6 June 2011 (CDT)

For one thing, the page looks better and is far easier to read. For another thing, it's a really bad idea to argue with the admins, especially over something like this. Have you forgotten what happened the last time it was you against everyone else in a war for correctiveness? Emerald141 15:24, 6 June 2011 (CDT)

Actually, "They/Their/etc." are perfectly acceptable to refer to a singular entity or person while remaining gender-neutral. Hence why I suggested it in the first place. =P --~Qloof234 11:01, 6 June 2011 (CDT)

Really? Does it say that in the dictionary? Fuzboto 11:49, 6 June 2011 (CDT)
