Metatiles
In Return to Wonderland, the level editor includes all normal tiles that are shown in the game. You can create odd Metatiles by Hex Editing. Metatiles are tiles that do not behave like normal tiles and cannot be found in the editor. There are over 50 Metatiles in RTW. It is not known if Metatiles exist in Wonderland Adventures.
Inserting Metatiles Into Levels
If a level that you're making will contain Metatiles, they should be added last because if the editor attempts to read the Hex ID of the Metatiles. The editor won't recognize the alien tile and will come up with a Memory Access Violation. It is recommended to place tiles you'd recognize to replace with Metatiles.
To change a tile to a Metatile, open up XVI32 and look at the data. The tiles are read in two bytes, followed by some 0's. Eg: 64 00 00 00 2C 01 00 00 64 00 00 00.... 2C 01 represents a water tile. If you want to change this to invisible water, change 2C 01 to 2D 01. Be careful, because you might change something wrong, causing the level to be designed the way you didn't want it. To see the tile IDs, look at the Metatile list found by the bottom of the page.
Explanation
Most Metatiles were never intended to be added to the game. Some Metatiles are for internal things and act strange when placed in a level. Metatiles are simply messed up versions of the existing tiles. For example:
Spikes Speed 1
Spikes Speed 2
Spikes Speed 3
Spikes Speed 4
Spikes Speed 5
...
Spikes Speed 91
Spikes Speed 92
Spikes Speed 93
Spikes Speed 94
Spikes Speed 95
There are only 4 normal spike speeds in Return to Wonderland. However, the spikes are formatted to go all the way up to speed 95. Break tiles are also programmed like this and can withstand up to 94 steps. There are copies of most Metatiles. Tiles that haven't been programmed are just walkable empty space tiles. Since tiles are read in two bytes, there are a whopping 65,536 tiles!
The most unusual and interesting tile is 38 08.
Tile List
Tiles written down and researched by MyNameIsKooky. Use this to help you add Metatiles to your levels.
00 00: Empty.
00 02: Switcharoo conveyor 2 that starts up.
00 07: Transporter that you can only push things onto. When it moves, it makes invisible walls on its trail. When it moves, it will not stop until it reaches the level border or an object. Any tiles that are passed by the transporter will act like a wall.
01 02: Switcharoo conveyor 2 that starts right.
02 02: Switcharoo conveyor 2 that starts down.
03 02: Switcharoo conveyor 2 that starts left.
05 07: Transporter that you can only push things onto. When it moves, it makes invisible trampolines on its trail. When it moves, it will not stop until it reaches the level border or an object. Any tiles that are passed by the transporter will act like a trampoline.
08 02: Appears as an empty tile at first, but changes into a green down conveyor after stepping over it.

34 08: Red Link Sphere.
35 08: Yellow Link Sphere.
36 08: Green Link Sphere.
37 08: Blue Link Sphere.
38 08/3C 08: This tile "steals" an animation part of tile number xx 04, where xx is any Hex number between 00 and FF. It behaves weirdly if placed in-game. This tile will make the level MAV unless you play another level before playing the level that it is in. Which graphic part the tile steals is chosen at random. The tile will either steal nothing or one graphic part. Graphic parts from tile xx 04 that were stolen will dissapear and appear on tile 3C 08. (Or, in other words, this tile "steals" a graphic part from one of the other tile xx 04's that are present.) It acts like a box, so you can push it. If it breaks, the game will sometimes MAV. The game will also MAV sometimes when you exit the level. This tile is one of the rare tiles that has a URE error (Unknown Runtime Exception). The tiles that have had their graphics stolen will still act like they did before. If a button's graphics was stolen, it would still act like a button on the tile where the graphics used to be. When you step on the tile where the graphics used to be, it would open whatever gates or stop whatever conveyor belts it would normally, and the graphics would change into a pressed button, even if it is on tile 3C 08! This tile can also link to shadows of things if it chooses to. This tile also acts like a metal box, so it can withstand fireballs, and it can't float! If there is no tile xx 04 to steal graphics from, tile 3C 08 would look like a normal floor tile. This tile has lots of wacky uses, like walking on walls for example. Just play around with this tile and see what you can do!
40 05: Glitch sign? MAV's the game when you come into a level with one of these.
40 06: Wooden Box Factory.
41 06: Steel Box Factory.
42 06: Leftright Reflector Factory.

44 06: Boulder Factory.
45 06: Ice Box Factory.
46 06: Keg Factory.
47 06: Prism Factory.
48 06: Sticky Cube Factory.
49 06: Red Link Sphere Factory.
4A 06: Yellow Link Sphere Factory.
4B 06: Green Link Sphere Factory.
4C 04: Conveyor 1 Square Button.
4C 06: Blue Link Sphere Factory.
4D 04: Conveyor 1 Circle Button.
4D 06: Glitch Box Factory. This box factory creates tile 3C 08's because it is the last pushable thing that the game can read. This box factory creates tile 3C 08's even if there is one already present. This is because the game is not programmed to look for tile 3C 08's in the level because it is not an official tile or object.

67 09: Fire Shadow Stinker Peegue
68 02: Break tile that can withstand 11 steps.
68 09: Glitch Shadow Stinker that MAV's the game. This is the ninth Shadow Stinker. Since there are only 4 Stinkers in the gang and there are only 2 types of Shadow Stinkers, there are only 8 Shadow Stinkers. There is no 3rd type of Shadow Stinker or 5th member of the gang, so the game can't find any new Shadow Stinker type, so its only choice is to MAV.
