Wonderland Secret Worlds is the third game in the Wonderland series and the final game in the Classic Trilogy. It was released on March 1, 2005.
Gameplay
Wonderland Secret Worlds uses the familiar puzzle/action gameplay seen in the rest of the Classic Trilogy. However, there are several cosmetic changes. Instead of Rainbow Coins, the player collects Key Coins. The end-of-level goal has also been changed. Usually, this is a Gold Star though occasionally, it may be an item required to progress through the game. All level elements from Return to Wonderland Deluxe Edition are present. For the most part, no new elements are introduced though the levels also make use of Custom Models with one level even using Metatiles.
The biggest change is that there is now a world map as opposed to the level selection menu seen in Wonderland and Return to Wonderland. To progress to the next world, the player needs to collect a certain amount of Gold Stars. Occasionally, an item is needed to progress. For example, Peegue’s Wondertown Pass is required to access eastern Wondertown. There are also secret levels accessible by investigating suspicious spots on the map. These levels contain Rainbow Stars which are required to reach the final level.
Plot
One night, a magical storm comes in from the sea and sweeps all the little Stinkers away. After a moment of despair, Stinky remembers an old saying that goes “With the help of friends, you can reach any goal.” Stinky sets off and meets up with Loof near the entrance to Stinky’s Cove. They go through the Windy Hills and visit the Temple Ruins and end up in Wondertown. There, Stinky saves Mayor Peegue from a horde of Chompers, and afterward, Peegue agrees to help Stinky and Loof rescue the little Stinkers. With Peegue’s Wondertown Pass, the trio are able to go through the restricted part of Wondertown and exit to the east.
The trio traverse The Plains and explore the Creepy Keep. On their way north to the Foggy Mountains, they meet up with Qookie who also joins the group after taking out a map of the mountains from her shed. They scale Foggy Peak and explore the caves for Gold Stars. Afterward, the gang travel back south to the Ocean View Harbour where they catch a ferry to Fire Island. They eventually end up in the Volcano after a bit of exploring. Loof gets separated from the rest of the group and has to take another path around. After reconvening, the gang enter the heart of the Volcano where they find the Forest Map.
The gang head back to the mainland and make their way back through the Creepy Keep to get to the Forever Forest. In the middle of the forest, Peegue finds an abandoned cabin with a note attached saying Rainbow Stars can be found by exploring unexplored places and once five are collected, head to the highest peak and face the rising sun. The gang follow the note’s instructions and discover Cloud City where they find even more Rainbow Stars. After that, they head to the Wasteland and then cross The Chasm and enter The Void. They eventually reach the heart of the Void and escape using a combination of perpetual motion and the power of the Rainbow Stars and find a pyramid with all the little Stinkers inside. The gang solve the puzzles inside the pyramid to rescue the Stinkers and ultimately save the day.
